We all know we don’t do this enough. But washing your makeup brushes can be a key way to avoid breakouts by cleaning the build up of germs, dirt and oil from everyday contact with your skin. Ideally, brushes (and sponges!) should be cleaned after every use to avoid any build up at all. We have put together cheap and simple steps you can do at home to keep your brushes clean.
Step 1. Wet Bristles with lukewarm running water. Avoid submerging any part of the brush because the water will start to break down the glue holding the brush together.
Step 2. Use makeup cleanser, antibacterial soap or baby shampoo to clean the brush. Place a small amount in your hand or in a bowl.
Step 3. Massage bristles in your hand or bowl, working the debri and makeup particles out.
Step 4. Rinse until the water is clear and the brush looks clean. If the brush is still dirty, repeat steps 1-3. Squeeze excess water from the bristles with a clean towel.
Step 5. Reshape brush head and lie flat on a towel to air dry with the bristles hanging off the counter. If you are in a hurry, use a blow dryer on the lowest setting and low heat to speed the drying process up.
That’s it! Only 5 steps for cleaner and smoother skin. Think of it as a necessary process for improving your confidence. It might not be super convenient but your skin will thank you for it if you can add it to your daily beauty routine!
