We at Golden Star Beauty firmly believe in protecting your skin from sun damage which is why we have our line of self tanning products! However, unexpected events or circumstances come up and sometimes sunburn just happens. No one is perfect but when sun damage does occur, it is important to help it heal as soon as possible. Below are some at-home treatments to help with that.
Aloe Vera ~ This is the most well-known treatment. The slimy insides of this cactus plant offers healing and relief from discomfort. It is also a natural moisturizer. Apply straight from the plant or in the form of a gel that can be bought at the store. Once applied, leave on overnight wearing loose clothing.
Honey ~ From Egyptian days, honey has been used as a burn salve which speeds up healing, reduces infection and minimize pain. (*Note: Do Not Use on Children Under 1 Year*) Rub on burned areas and let sit for as long as possible.
Oatmeal ~ When combined with a hot bath, oatmeal is a great way to reduce inflammation and can soothe your red-hot skin.
Witch Hazel ~ Witch Hazel is an astringent that works against inflammation and minimizes pain and itching. Apply to a wet washcloth and dab on your skin 3-4 times a day, leaving it on for 20 minutes.
Potatoes ~ Simply rub slices of potatoes directly on your skin or blend it into a paste and soak a paper towel in the paste to rub on your skin. The intensity of the starch helps take the sting out of the burn.
Vinegar ~ Distilled white or apple cider vinegar can help soothe your skin and kills bacteria to prevent infection. Use a cotton ball or a spray bottle to apply every few hours.
Taking care of your skin is very important! The more you care for your skin now, the longer your skin will continue to look healthy and youthful. Take precautions to avoid sunburn but if it does happen, there are easy tools at your disposal to make sure your skin is taken care of.
